I’d like clarification on card 215 – is covering the same as touching?
Frank West
30th January 2023 at 11:14 am
Hi Pyka, thank you for the question – Covering and touching are different.
Covering requires something to be placed on something, meaning the covered object is no longer visible.
Touching requires it to be next to something, meaning the touched object it still visible.
For card 215, the cat tiles must be immediately adjacent to (touching) a square contain a rat, but the rat must still be visible at the end of the game.
I hope this helps.

I have two questions on solo mode-
1. Card 083 (Anytime card) in a solo game with Cats 1 to 8 in place, how do you handle the cat tiles drawn with this card?
2. I have the first kickstarter pack with 4 additional Oshax in the discovery bag. When filling the fields in solo mode, and I draw an Oshax, do I just add him to become Oshax 7?

Hi Gloria, I’ll be happy to help.
Q1. Card 083 (Anytime card) in a solo game with Cats 1 to 8 in place, how do you handle the cat tiles drawn with this card?
You may place them anywhere you like in the line of cats and then you will reassign numbers once they have been placed. If you put 3 cats on the left side and 1 on the right side at the start of a round, you would end up with cats 1 – 7 on the left side of the island and cats 8 – 12 on the right side of the island.
Q2. I have the first kickstarter pack with 4 additional Oshax in the discovery bag. When filling the fields in solo mode, and I draw an Oshax, do I just add him to become Oshax 7?
That is correct, and then as you take and play Oshax the number will slowly reduce.
In both situations you can end up with cats that your sister can’t rescue as the numbers aren’t on her cards, this effectively makes them safe for a short while until enough cats have been rescued that their numbers are reduced.
I hope this helps.

Pardon the intrusion. I have a question regarding the Kickstarter Pack lesson card “Friendly Feline” which I could not find explained here (or anywhere else online).
Looking at the “sister card” named “Puddle of Cats”, which reads: “10 points if you have at least 1 Cat touching exactly 5 other Cats of the same color”, it would seem to me that this MUST mean e.g. 1 red cat touching 5 red cats, 1 purple cat touching 5 purple cats, etc. (as opposed to, say, 1 red cat touching 5 yellow cats) – correct?
If this is so, and considering the limited number of different cat colors (5) in the game overall, my reading of “Friendly Feline” (“10 points if you have at least 1 Cat touching 5 different color Cats”) is, you get the points if 1 cat of color X touches 5 cats of any color (doubles and triples allowed), as long as their color is not X. For instance, one yellow cat touches two green and three red? That qualifies. In fact, one red cat touches 5 (!) purples? That qualifies.
Could you please confirm? Much obliged!

Hi Johulka, thanks for the questions.
For your first point, the individual cat can be any colour, as long as the 5 cats it is touching are the same colour. So 1 blue cat touching 5 red cats would score the card. As would 1 red cat touching 5 red cats.
As for the second part, the 10 points are rewarded for having 1 cat of any colour, touching cats of 5 different colours. Meaning you would need a blue, green, red, orange, and purple cat touching the same cat in order to score.
I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly!
You made our day – in two separate ways.
Firstly, because my wife quite triumphantly noted that her interpretation was canonical (as opposed to that of me and my son; we were very wrong), so she is now basking in superior board game competence as certified by the AUTHOR himself. 😀
Secondly, because we will in a few minutes play our first round with the Kickstarter pack (freshly bought by our son, a big fan who took the train into Prague the other day when he found out it was available there), in the garden, on what shapes up to be a summer day here in Central Bohemia, and it will feel great to know that we won’t run into issues of interpretation.
Thanks for an amazing game, and again for your kindness and quick assistance.

Cards 222 (Lesson card)
Cost: 2 fish.
Text: 10 points per row containing only 1 colour cat and is at least 12 squares long.
If I have 3 row, 1 row of blue cat and 2 row of yellow cats, that means I get 30 points? Or pick just 1 colour ,like yellow for 20 points? We have plated with 3 rows of cats of different colors before,if you get 30 points, I think it will be easier than other lesson cards to get points.

30th May 2023 at 10:08 am
Hi Kevin, this card can score multiple times, and each scoring row can be filled with different colour cats.
If you have 2 rows of 12 with green cats and 1 row of 12 with red cats, that would score 30 points.
I hope this helps!

If 2 rows of 12 with green cats are side by side still score 20? (12X2)
Frank West

They do, and this will typically be the easiest way to score the card twice.

For anytime card, “the next time you rescue one cat, you may rescue two cats instead”
When playing with the Kittens expansion, does this mean I can do two RESCUES; for example rescuing two kittens for five fish; then also rescuing a cat (or, maybe rescuing two more kittens) ??
Frank West
15th June 2023 at 12:13 am
Hi Gloria, that is correct, you can use the card for cats and/or kittens. So you could rescue 2 kittens and then a cat using this card.
You can find a full breakdown on the permutations on page 14 of the Kittens + Beasts rulebook in the FAQ section.
I hope this helps!

Hi Frank,
I was wondering if you would be allowed to discard lesson cards once you have already paid for them. If I bought the lesson card “7 points if you have exactly 6 lesson cards” and I have 7, can I discard one card to achieve the lesson?
Thanks!
Frank West

Hi Alana, I am afraid not.
Unless you have a card that specifically asks you to discard a lesson card, then you cannot choose to discard one.
I hope this helps!

Hello, thanks for the games, we love it with the whole family!
Q: Card 340-342.
(when you play this card, you must use both baskets one after the other before passing the turn)
Does this mean I can just save two cats or can this card only be played with card 080-182 (by saving one cat you can immediately save the second cat)?
Frank West
13th July 2023 at 11:53 am
Hi Ana, it is my pleasure, I am glad you are enjoying it!
This card means you can rescue 2 cats by using just this card.
These cards are effectively 2 baskets in 1 card, which are both used at the same time
I hope this helps!

For card 126, does that lesson card count as a lesson card in front of you for scoring purposes? Thanks! We loveee the game and would love to see a magnetic ship board with magnetic puzzle pieces in the future 🙂
Frank West

Hi Bailey,
Card 126 does count itself.
If you only had that card it would be 1 point, and each additional lesson card will be another point.
I hope this helps and thank you for the suggestion!

Hi Frank, great game. Query if you still lose points for visible rats when holding card 125- visible rats, do you also still lose points for an unfilled room when holding card 137 – empty bedrooms?
Thanks,
